I have worked with Buildout for more than 20 years on a broad range of projects. In all of them I have found them to be thorough, detail-oriented, and superior in almost every respect to other builders I have worked with. They have great relationships with a number of key subcontractors like Century glass who work seamlessly with them. They provide detailed estimates before beginning jobs which they stand firmly behind. They have very few change orders, and in my experience we have always been able to work as a team through any issues which may arise in the field due to unknown conditions.

Projects they have building which I designed include a refined build-out of 25,000 SF on two floors for F-Squared with dozens of glass fronted offices and wood paneling, the transformation of a 30,000 SF factory and headquarters for Dielectric Sciences in Chelmsford with new exterior glass and metal elements, and a renovated 2-story lobby with stone slab walls and floors, linear LED lighting, and glass handrails, in addition to dozens of conventional office fit-ups. In all of them, Buildout has performed admirably. I work with many other reputable contractors, and by the end of the project for a variety of reasons, I often find myself wishing that Buildout had been the GC.

There are a number of reasons for their superior performance: One is that the project supervisors are all hands-on. They have all been with Buildout for many years, and are held responsible for the schedule and quality of the job. They each take the work seriously and are fully involved. Another is that Buildout self-performs many trades. This means that coordination and timing is largely a matter of in-house management, not waiting for sub-contractors with other priorities. Another is that they have a number of real craftsmen on staff who can solve unusual conditions and develop refined details and finishes which can often be an unmanageable challenge for GC’s who rely solely on subcontractors. All of these qualities lead to tighter schedules, and better performance than many GC’s who tout their skills as construction managers.

One rare feature of Buildout is because the different trades are all part of the same company, they seems to work as a team, with each trade taking responsibility for the success of the whole project. All of this leads to more coordinated work with tighter schedules and less need for overhead management and associated costs, which usually leads to better value for each construction dollar.
